Wordmark, logo, symbol or brand. Each of these words
has a different and specific meaning, but to the general consumer, they are interchangable.
Their commonality is in the function, the end result.
When one sees a symbol or reads a name or word styled
in a certain way, it identifies a product, an organization
or a company.
Ideally the "logo" should evoke a sense of what it
represents — the character of the company or product,
distilled down to it's very essence.
Although color is often linked to a logo, a good logo
must be
able to stand on its own.
A sucessful logo should
first be able to function in simple black and white.
